Default Idle speed and VSS?

hey guys,
i have a question about the idle speed of my 94 ex with the Z6....

i have been battling with the car since i got it almost a year ago with the idle speed and trying to raise it to about 750-850rpm because at ~500 where it likes to idle it shakes a lot and if i could bump it up about 200 or so all of that goes away,

now the thing is, i'll be driving say, 40mph in 4th gear at 2.5k rpm and go to stop, push in the clutch, the tach falls to about 800rpm, rises to about 1100, stays there until i come to a complete stop, then falls to like 500rpm.

is this normal for a civic? i was under the impression the car should go straight to it's idle when the clutch is pushed in, i know a lot of questions relate to idle but nothing kind of like this.

thanks for any help,
James

Try cleaning the IACV and FITV on the throttle body.

Hey RonJ, i have already cleaned the IACV and checked for FITV suction at warm idle and all seems to be normal, there is no CEL, and it idles smooth when it does idle but it seems like there is a 2-3 stage idle, is this normal?

if not, does it seem that my IACV is bad? i have tried adjusting the idle to move at all, but seems like the ecu won't let it idle anywhere outside it's comfort zone.

thanks again,
James

Check whether you measure 8-15 Ohms across the two pins of the disconnected IACV (valve not harness connector).

thanks for the quick reply, does it matter if the engine is running or warm at the time of measuring?

Engine OFF. Resistance measurement done on two pins of disconnected IACV.

By the way, here's the proper method for setting the idle speed:

hey RonJ, i measured the resistance across the IACV and i got a reading anywhere from 6-14 ohms, it was never really steady though.

I'm starting to think it might be the FITV? is this piece able to be cleaned or do you have to get a new one?

but like i said, the idle starts up about 1.5-2k, does not jump, roam or anything, it's just that when it's completely warm, it comes down to normal idle, pops back up about 500 rpms, then i stop and it goes back to the proper idle and idles nicely almost like the IACV corrects it but only when i come to a stop for some reason....

thanks again

oh and on a second note, i have tried adjusting the idle several times (like over 10 i would say) even with jumping the 2pin connector on the ECU along with everything else i could think of to no avail

Here's how to clean the FITV:

Is the CEL ON?

Have you tried bleeding the cooling system of possible trapped air?

Did you use a digital multimeter for the Ohm measurements on the IACV?
