Idle surges when cold
I have a 2001 honda civic EX. I've had an ongoing issue where, in cold weather (> 45 degrees or so) the idle will surge/cycle between 1500-2000 rpm continuously. This is before the engine fully warms up. Once the engine is warm, the problem goes away, it settle into a normal idle. Another note: if I let off the brakes briefly, it will give up the chase and settle into its normal idle speed (around 500 rpm)
Any suggestions? I looked at the throttle body (which is a pain in the @$$ to get to in this car) and it didn't look too dirty? Could it be a vacuum hose of some kind?
(Just to clarify, my comment above in no way reflects on my feeling for Honda or the Civic. This is by far my favorite car I've owned up until this point, I plan on sticking with Honda for the foreseeable future)
