Installing a 2-way alarm/starter...
Hey guys,
I scored a Compustar 2WSS-AS for $150 on boxing day. Unfortunately, the place I bought it from wants something like $400 to install all the features I want, so I've been thinking about doing it myself so I know its done right. And so I can save $400! Aside from the basic install,I need to install actuators so I can have power door locks, and I also want parking light flash and a fuel pump cut. I also wanta battery backup module, but I'm not sure if the DEI module will work with my compustar alarm. Any help on this would be much appreciated.
Thanks

If you're installing a starter, first of all, I hope you drive an automatic. Installing a remote starter on a manual is just asking for trouble (and they weren't designed for manuals either).
Actuators aren't too hard to install. Make sure you have a powered up cordless drill so you can drill them into the door frame. Makes sure you have enough clearance between the door frame and the cover. If you put it inside the door, cover it with plastic or make sure it's water proof (as water gets inside there) and make sure it doesn't hit the window when it rolls down.
Other than that, getting into the wires is fairly easy. Look up a guide, 12voltresource is helpful, and there's others out there that will let you find the wires you're after. Parking light flash and fuel pump cut shouldn't be too hard for you to find.
The backup battery is a little trickier. The alarm I got fortunately had this feature built into the siren itself, so even if it gets completely cut, it will go off until you key it off. You can try find a siren like this, to make things a lot easier.

Get hood locks... anyone can pop your hood from under the bumper and just disconnect your battery. The battery backup from DEI might work but probably won't. Remember to connect your door triggers, trunk trigger and hood trigger. I should post some how-tos and pictures on this subject, just haven't had time. If you have power windows or a power sunroof you can use your AUX functions in accordance with time-delay relays to make them remote controlled. Above anything, use a Digital Multimeter to verify and test wires that you are tapping into. If you take a websites' color code diagram for face value you can end up deploying your airbags or destroying your ECM or BCM.
Where are you from? I'd help you do it if you're close.
