Default Instrument panel on and off

My instrument panel comes on and off when I turn the lights on. If I hit a bump or hit the top of the dash, it would come on. Obviously, there's a short somewhere. Now, I was looking for a DIY on how to take apart the panel but couldn't find one. Can anybody post some instructions or point me in the right direction on how to take the instrument panel apart? BTW, it's a '92 LX.

Are the lights on the heater control panel doing the same thing? If so it could be the dimmer control. Pry that control out of the dash, leaving the wires attached and tap on it some while you watch the lights. If it's flakey, replace it.

After so long I decided to do what you said and you were right on. Replaced the switch and voila!!! Got lights again. Thanks for your help.
