Default jerking/ shutting off

My (01 civic, automatic) started jerking while driving yesterday and has continued to do so today. The jerking is more noticeable while stopped, but you can still feel it while driving. Also I had to stopped a little faster than normal today and my car suddenly shut off. It has also done this several times in the past while coming to a stop. What could be causing both of these problems and how can they be fixed? Thanks!

If it runs completely normally while you're stepping on the gas, but jerks when you're not, it's probably the idle air control valve.
