just bought a 94 civic
pretty reliably cars, i guess first off how many miles are on it, do you have maintenance history? When was the timing chain replace? Other than that, just normal stuff go wrong, sensors, etc. But overall they are pretty good.
Any newly acquired older Civic you should change the timing belt and all the fluids in order to start at zero on a basic maintenance schedule. Use only Honda ATF in the transmission. The other stuff (other than power steering, which a DX wouldn't have) can use generic fluids.
