kill switch on the fuel pump (94 civic).
Hi,
i own a 94 civic (EG8) with acarburetor engine and I want to install a kill switch on the fuel pump. There are 3 electrical wires leavingthe fuel pump. When i cut the yellow wire the fuel gauge stops working, but the car would start and run as normal for days. When Icut any of the 2 other wires the car would also run as normal for days. When I cut all3 wires, the car wouldagain run as normal.Any ideas why it would start and continue to run?? Any suggestions what to do??? What wires do they connect with the kill switch??

Are you sure it's not a mechanical pump? The old carburated ones had a pump attached to the head of the engine and driven by the camshaft. Back at the tank, it's just a simple pipe. The pump is under the hood, and not electric at all. All the wires are related to the gauge.
A 94 Civic should have the fuel pump in the fuel tank. As mk says, I think you cut the three wires from the fuel sending unit rather than the fuel pump.
ya you cut the wrong wires.... the 3 wires go to your fuel tank gauge.... if it doesnt have a 2 wire harness above the tank then you have a mechanical pump, not eletric..
that way you have to find a different way.... maybe a kill switch to the computer or maybe even just use a electric solinoid on the batteries power wire.

tho to be effective you need to customize the electrical wiring alittle..... cut the alternators charging wire runing to the battery as well as power wire runing to the starter. and DO NOT HAVE THE SOLINOID VISABLE!!!!! hide it somehow! otherwise if the theif pops the hood he can simply use a small wire to jump the solinoid which would kinda defeat the kill switch.LOL
BUT another side note if you have a alarm system or keyless entry youll have to wire them up directly to the battery for them to still work.
but if you just want alittle security you can always just unplug the computer. tho not sure exactly how to kill switch a carbed motor.
just get creative! hell ive heard of people just taking there spark plug wires or the distributor cap, or computer, or even the fuel pump relay out of the car with them.
but like always it wont be fool proof. theives can get a tow truck or trailer and a winch to drag your car off if they want it bad enough.
