Lambda sensor ?

Lambda sensor ?
How can i check if my lambda sensor is working properly, reason being is that i have used 3/4 of a tank of fuel and done 190 miles, its a Civic 93 ESI 1.6 Auto so is this normal usage or is there a sinister plot to cost me a shed load money in fuel ( im in the UK, hence the shed load of money in fuel).
