Default light weight flywheel and stage 2 clutch?

Is upgrading your flywheel and clutch a good place to start modifying? What are some reliable brands?

No, IMO clutch and flywheel should come after you have enough mods/hp/tq to warrent upgrading them. Concensus here would be I/H/E, allowing the engine to breathe better.

Unless your stock clutch is blown and you cant stand the idea of putting another stock one in if you're gonna be down there putting an aftermarket one in a month anyways, not a great place to start but if you're down there anyways go ahead, other than that always start with your engine breathing Headers/Catback/Coldair intake

if you have to replace it anyway, absolutely get a stage1 and a flywheel. I prefer Exedy and ACT. But I lean more toward Exedy except they dont offer a flywheel for the sohcs. but you can mix an exedy clutch kit with an act FW.
