Default Lights Flicker

Not sure if anyone knows what this could be, but while im driving at night, my headlights will flicker. For example they just randomly get dimmer and brighter off and on. It never gets too dim to where i cant see or anything, but its definately noticable...anyone know what could be causing this to happen? Thanks for any help.

What year Civic?

Is the dash charge light ON when driving? Is the CEL ON?

The alternator may be failing. Before replacing, clean and tighten the battery terminals and connectors, as well as the battery ground wire in the engine bay. Also check whether the alternator belt is loose. If the problem persists, take the car to AutoZone to have the battery and alternator checked (free service).

It is a 1997 EX. The only light on in my dash is the red SRS light, which i believe is the airbag light. And CEL..i dont know what you are talking about. When i first noticed it months ago i thought i just had a weak battery. I bought a brand new, it was the most expensive and best one that Auto Zone had to offer for my car. Forgot the name of it off the top of my head..the red top battery though. Anyways, I had a friend tell me it was probably the alternator so im glad you say the same thing, makes two people on the same page. Ill try those few steps and see how it goes, if not ill go to auto zone. Those guys are good, about two months ago check engine light came on...took it up there for free diags and found out my O2 sensor went out, bought one and replaced it in parking lot.

coreyls18,

I concur with RonJ that it is an impending alternator failure. I had the exact same symptoms for about 3 yrs b/4 it failed. you don't want to play chicken with a bad alternator b/c one day it just won't start.

Check all of your engine ground straps.
