I was driving on the highway last night and when i would let off the gas pedal i could hear a lound type a squeak squeal that would continue until i pressed the gas again or i got slow enough. I thought it might be a belt but usually a belt gets louder when u accelerate, not when u let off the gas. Any help on this would be great!

 

one check your belts see if any are really loose. then if its not that its going to be sumthin more of a pain in the ***. a.c. compressor could be going out, same with the alternator, or one of ur pulleys could be failing.

a squeal shouldn't be anything else other than those things i just said. how old is your car? whens last time you had alternator replaced or a.c. work done?

 

i dont have a/c and the the alternator was replaced very recently

 

wow, well can u pop ur hood and rev the motor and make it squeal? or is it only happening when driving? i dont wanna make u or me sound dum but ur brakes? cuz there really isnt anything else that would squeal or make like a whistling noise like that

 

yea, it only happens when ive been driving after awhile, but its not the brakes so it must be a belt... i just dont get why it doesnt do it right away or when the car isnt moving.....

 

ima say it isnt a belt because like you said it would happen when u start your car for the most part. it has to be a pulley going out. and to find it is tuff especially when its only happening when ur moving down the road.
