You remove it using the same area you use when you reach up to change the oil filter. It takes some playing with it and turning it different ways to get it out, but you'll get it out eventually.

matt,

I'm not sure if your design is the same as my 6th gen. i had to remove the mounting bracket to remove the alternator. you can do what trust said but i chose to remove the mounting backet which freed up just enough space to get it out the driver's side.

remember to use a deep socket 14 mm to get the bolt off and remove the driver's side front wheel for additional space.

Put the front end on stands, and remove the splash shield and the driver's wheel. Then follow the instructions below. I agree with mundy, removal of the alternator mounting bracket will ensure ease of alternator removal. The alternator is removed from below the car.

Don't you love the language in #6 "If necessary, remove the mounting bracket bolts . . ." I got a good laugh out of this one.

I agree. It should read "It's definitely necessary!"

It's not completely necessary, it just makes it easier. I got mine out without taking off the bracket.

It will not come out if the weight of the car is still on the wheels (for example if you drive up on ramps.) The car must be supported so the left front wheel hangs free.
