Major repairs to my 93 civic SI needed?
Hi,
I wish my first post wasn't like this... but I've come seeking some advice on if its worth keeping my civic. I bought this 93 civic H/B SI about 5 years ago and its been pretty low maintenance except for a bearing going. However, it's approaching the 190K km / 118K miles mark and the ignition coil went requiring a tow. The ignition coil was fairly cheap, but it came back from the garage after the service with a fairly lengthy list of major repairs needed that with labour and tax I'm guessing will cost more that $4000. Which is getting close to the breaking point because I'm not sure I could sell the car for much more than that after the repairs! So I could use some suggestions...mainly if the repair costs seem exorbitant, as I will have to make the decision ultimately if the car is worth keeping. It has served me very well, this was a bit of a shock.
So here are the notes from the mechanic.
Distributor needs to be replaces because they found Red dust in it, which is a tell tale sign it is about to fail. $560
Car power steering rack is leaking $2500 with alignment
Trailing Arm Bushings $440
Clutch S lave cylinder $210.00
Right outer CV boot cracked $160.00
+ tax
I really can't afford these repairs, and my car knowledge is minimal to low, although I am a DIY with many other things, I lack the space/tools for any major car repairs. Should I be looking elsewhere other than the Honda dealer for service, or is this reasonable?
thanks.
