Default Is my 97 civic totaled?

A few days ago, a tree fell on my 97 honda civic and I need to know how much it might cost to repair, as it only has 80k miles on it.

Click pictures for higher detail:

Note the cracked windshield in the last pic.

Thanks in advance

And, who's tree was it? The owner of the tree may have insurance that will pay for your damage.

Anyway, anytime the roof is caved in it is almost certainly a total loss. But you can take the insurance check and keep the car, this is called "retain salvage". The check will be for slightly less than the actual cash value of the car before the tree hit it. The amount less is what the insurance company could sell it for as junk, usually only a couple hundred.

If you have a lien on the car the insurance money must go to the finance company to pay off the loan (hopefully).

I would think that it would be too much for out of pocket repairs. it looks like it really hit your car in a terrible place. do you have home insurance or does the person, on whose lawn the tree is, have insurance? then you can make a claim that way.

ya its totaled........ if the car WAS in good condition then keep it and look for a PROJECT civic or a wrecked high in the front end...

anything with the roof caved in is a totaled body!!!!!!
at least you have the full interior, drivetrain you can slap into another car OR at least part the car out towards purchase of another complete civic....

The tree belonged to the household across from ours. We were told over the phone by their homeowners insurance company that they won't cover the damages, even though I think the tree's roots were rotten..

You should try small claims court. In CA, you can sue up to 5000 dollars.

That's why it pays to have insurance.
