Default Is my car Vtec or not???

hi
i have just got myself a 1998 civic coupe1.6,im trying to find out what model it is so i can establish what engine it has,i have had different people telling me it is a civic coupe sr and others saying its an lx??? is there anyway to tell the difference,it has rear drums and a spoiler if that helps?? basicly im trying to work out wether its vtec or not,would there be anything to look for on the engine? i have a suspison it is either the d16y7 sohc non vtec or the d16y8 sohc vtec but not sure.

Look at the serial # stamped in a little flat surface onthe block (near the split line between block & tranny). The first line will say D16whatever. The second line is the block serial #.

You could look to see whether there's a vtec spool valve bolted to the head.

Or you could look on top of the valve cover. Does it say 'vtec' in big letters?
