okay, thanks guys. Won't be able to get a pic of the cracked section until next weekend i'm afraid. although small chance I could do it tomorrow evening. Might be worth it.

I doubt the rear brakes are even doing anything at all. I personally think the whole thing is seized up along with the e-brake, although the cylinder does seem to work when you press on the brake pedal. Strange that the rear brakes don't make any noise tho. But, yeah, driving about 60 miles a day or so....
