I have had a problem for the last few weeks regarding my civic not starting when it gets warm, it has to be cooled down before it will start. I have read a few things on here and other sites which indicate the problem is most likely the main relay . Today the car will not start at all, the battery is good, and when I turn key to 1st position I get the 2 second fuel pump noise, and when i turn it to start the engine does not turn over but I get continuous fuel pump noise, I think this means its definitly the main relay. Any comments appreciated.

My problem is I cannot find this main relay , I believe its somewhere around the fuse box under drivers side dashboard , I have pulled out a wiper relay, a relay which I presume is for indicators serial number fc257ek. and I can see in some impossible place to get to there is another relay for dim dip headlights. I cannot see a main Relay. Can anyone describe in detail where this main relay is?

there is a little holding cup in the middle dash area on the left side.
if you are sitting in the drivers seat, then straight forward of your knee-cap is the little tray - has a pull-down door on it.
all that needs to come out - and it is up behind it.
i took those little cups out to the right also.
think you need 10 mm socket - not for sure, though.

 

The main relay is under the dash, just above the hood latch lever. It's probably a grey, rectangular part.

i am assuming your car is the SI model correct ? fuel injected??
