Default Need help with suspension problem!

My maintenance needed light came on a couple of days ago and my 2000 civic has been makinga "Koonngg" noise whenever I turn the wheel to the right or left about 30% of the time. It sounds like a spring is being stretched to it's limit, and then is being let go. Anybody know what my problemmight beand/or how much it should cost to fix?

just to help me understand.. the 'kong' noise happens when you turn the wheel 30% of its travel from center, or if you turned it lock to lock it would happen 3 outta 10 times?
i like the description of the noise.. i could totally hear it in my head.... oh, wait, thats just my marbles!!!! hehehehehehe

hmm, does it seem to happen more often when your sitting still or driving? i ask because the load on different parts while sitting still is different than the forces applied when driving...
one thought that i had, was to have someone that you trust sit in the car, and turn the wheel back and forth while you pop the hood, crawl around, and try and locate the noise... this might help to narrow it down...
the first things that come to mind for me are ball joints, tie rod ends, basically all the moving parts of the steering system.. one other thought.. is there any way that a brake line is not tied down, and maby its hitting and twanging one of the front coil springs? just a thought...
