Need Oxygen Sensor Info???
I have a 97 civic HX i need a new oxygen sensor before cat, the original sensor has 7 wires comming out of it, OEM o2 sensors cheapiest i kind find are 400$, anyone know if you can hook up a generic 4 wire sensor? and if so i would like to see if anyone knows what each wire on the oem sensor is used for.
good heavens forbid. i just put one on ; 20 dollars. but for an 88.
is that a vtec, vtec-e, or non-vtec.??
a bosch oe is 83 at autozone; univ is 62 by denso. (need an answer to the question before i know if the prices will apply)
thought only difference was doing the wire connection - where oe would have connector to just connect, you have to do your own for the univ.
first time i did soldering and shrink tubing, but recently i did butt connectors. just as well have the connectors there - well, one 1 in my case (only 1 wire).

yeah autozones oem replacement sensor is 400$, they have a generic bosch with 4 wires (80$) im trying to figure out if its possible to use the four wire sensor and hook it up to the correct wires in the 7 wire harness, if its even possible my repair manual wiring diagram isn't detailed enough to show what all 7 wires go to on original sensor.
Don't be trying to put a square peg in a round hole. Unfortunately you've got a D16y5 and they have a 7-wire primary sensor, the only model of civic with this type. Two of the terminals are for the heater circuit and the other 5 are sensor terminals; the eighth terminal is not used. I think you are just going to have to bite the bullet on this one. Instead of a Bosch, I would recommend buying a Denso sensor because they are the OEM for Honda. I've never known any aftermarket auto store to carry this 7-wire sensor, but maybe things have changed. I would suggest the dealer here.
