Default Needed maintenance question

Is the Fuel injector and throttle body cleaning a maintenance item that is needed? I have a 2008 LX. It was recommended, but I have never herd of it and wanted to check to make sure it is something that is needed. Was told the engine would get damaged if not done. This is from Auto Lenders service division. Thanks.

If you use a quality fuel regularly, and run a can of injector cleaner now and then, like Berryman cleaner, there is no need to have the fuel system cleaned. Just another service offered by many shops to make some more money. My 2005 Civic Ex has about 200,000 miles and I've never had a fuel system cleaner performed and my engine runs like a top. If you do all the other maintenance items, your car will last an easy 300,000 miles.

Thanks, I thought that might be the case. It's a 200 dollar job. I run Sunoco regular and it seems to run fine. Thanks for the tip on the Berryman, I'll run a can through it.

Thanks again all. I have run two cans of Berryman through the car so far, did one then 3 tankfuls later did another. It was running fine before I did it but would occasionally have a slight rough idle. The rough idle is now significantly reduced to almost not at all, still a little there but not much. Think I'll skip the throttle body and fuel injector clean.
