I just bought a 93 Civic LX today. 190k miles on the car and prolly 110k on the motor. I dont really hear anything wrong with it, but i really dont know what these motors are suppost to sound like. What are the common parts that go bad, so i can change them before they go out. What else should i go over... this is going to be a daily driver, so i need it to be reliable. Also anything i can do to squeeze extra gas mileage out of it?

Timing belt, water pump, timing belt tensioner are usually done together if they haven't been done in recent history. Basic tune up (plugs, wires) if needed.

I was just like you a year ago. I got a 92 Civic LX with 189,000 miles. You can also try a cam adjustment to make it sound quieter & it will add slight mileage too. Throw some injector cleaner in the gas tank too...STP is pretty good.

I asked the prevouse owner and she gave me a deer in headlight look when i mentioned the timeing belt when i was looking at the car, so i was planning on that... guess ill swap out the pully and pump while i have it apart... havnt really looked into it... is it hard to do?

Also, are there any plugs that are suggested for this car? or is it just pick up whatever?

I actually like the sound.... how does it effect power, there are quite a few hills here so i dont want to loose too much. I was planning on dumping a can a seafoam in the tank next fill up and some in the vac line.... did loads for my old 302, figured it couldnt hurt here.
