New Motor Break In?
Hello everyone,
I have decided to sell off the '99 EX for a new DX or LX. A day or 2 after I purchase the new vehicle I'm gonna have to drive it home for the holidays ( about a 900 mile drive) and am worried that the engine might require a "break in" period. If I purchase a new vehicle this week and drive it that many miles right away, will it cause harm to the engine and transmission?
Thank you to anyone who has information on this topic.

dont accelerate too fast. no wide open throttling. dont maintain constant speed, change it up a little as you cruise. personally, i would go about 3k, then slow down and cruise a few miles, then bring it up to about 3500 rpm and then slow and cruise. then up to about 4k, back down, cruise, keep doing this to about 5k, then keep the revs low for the first 500-1000 miles or so. and start out with a max speed of about 45 while cruising down the freeway, going up 5mph every hundred miles, but not over about 60mph. thats a good way to do it, but im sure there are differing opinions out there.
When I bought my Mini, it was delivered to the dealership in VA, and I drove it all the way back to NC (not that far but still pretty far). I asked them about breaking in the car at the dealership and they said I could do it however I wanted, but to make sure not to redline. So I just drove normal most of the way home. I did vary the speed I was goin pretty often. Passing people is very fun in that car
but I also slowed it down quite a bit at times. But of course, there were about 50 miles on the car when I got it so it was pretty much already broken in when I got it.

Just baby the car for a little bit. I know it is hard when you get a car to do it but I suggest doing it for at least 3k miles keep rpm low, shift smootly and u'll be alright. You might not have to baby it for that long but just trying to be on a safe side here.
Its ok i bought my 04 civic with 1 miles on it, it just came in off the truck, the next day i drove straight threw to ny about 1200 miles one way and the dealership said it was fine just dont redline the car and for the first 300-500 miles go 60mph then after that im good and thats what i did and it was fine
I just bought my car about 5 months ago and the dealer said just don't punch it for about 500 miles and that should be fine. He also said that its fine if you want to take it on a long trip right away. I wouldn't worry about it. Just take it easy and don't push her too hard!
