Default Newb Help _Messed up Changing Dist. Cap & rotor.

Thanks for any help. This is a 1.6L 94 Civic. Was getting intermittent start issues, usually during rain or high moisture days. Figured it was probably an issue with the Distributor Cap/Rotor. Have done this many times through the years on other vehicles, but its been awhile. Anyway, removed the old cap and rotor. Very worn it was time to replace. Car was running before I changed these out. After putting the new rotor and dist. cap on, the car cranks but will not fire. Plugs wires are definitely in the right place. Figured since the rotor was keyed or only fits one way, that there was no worry to align this. but not sure if i messed this up somehow. I saw in the manual (after the fact) where I should point the rotor contact toward cylinder 1 on the distributor? Anyhow, what could cause the car to not start since replacing the rotor and distributor cap (when prior to installing, it was at least firing up ok)? Noticed the spark plugs are not getting any spark as well. And all I did was replace the rotor and dist. Cap.? Thanks.

well typicaly with most hondas when you mess with the plug wires and such that the stock coil can arch on something if you used the key to bump the motor over and it could have burned out.... easiest thing to check with a spark plug tester.... check for a spark and if there is no spark replace the internal coil.
and next time remember always turn the motor over manualy if you have the cap off or spark plug wires off.... its a factory flaw that the stock coils are really weak and prone to go bad if it pops a spark out.

Take the cap off and hold a grounded test wire near the output tower terminal of the coil. Crank engine and look for sparks to your wire. You should have blue sparks that can jump 3/4 of an inch easily. If you only get little yellow sparks, the coil is bad. It may have been weak before and causing some of your problems.

If the sparks from the coil are good, but no sparks at the plug wires, your new cap or rotor could have a short in it.

Also consider changing the plug wires if you haven't already, they are often the cause of misfiring in damp weather.
