Default Afraid to replace dist cap/rotor due to bad experience!

Last time I changed my dist cap and rotor (3 years ago) my distributor went bad 15 min after while driving. Same thing happened to my friend's civic.

I've replaced the cap and rotor multiple times before without any issues so I don't know what happened last time. Coincidence? Could I have done anything that may have contributed to distributor going bad?

Would like to replace the cap and rotor today as part of maintenance as I've been doing a lot of driving past years.

Please help boost my confidence up again in the area! Lol

distributors can actually smell your fear and self destruct as a defense mechanism.

I flushed the toilet once and it overflowed, haven't flushed it since. The bathroom is uninhabitable at this point. Electrical parts can go bad without warning, just like... well anything I guess.

Well I did it!

I accidentally nicked the plastic of the cap around one of the nuts. It's narrower than the other two and socket dug in a little/made slight groove. Think it'll be fine?

Yes it's just the cap I installed didn't have enough space for a socket to fit in for one of the bolts I noticed after it wore out a slight groove in the plastic. So I stopped and finished tightening with a Phillips head.
