Default Newbie ?'s

Hello everyone

Iam new here and to the Civics, but I used to be a half a$$ed mechanic and like working on my own stuff. I recently purchased a 98 HX 5 speed that has 162000 miles on it and is bone stock. I was wondering if it is to late in the engines life to start adding on performance parts and how it will hold up. It will be a daily driver so I want dependablity. I was looking at adding a cold air intake and maybe some other stuff but not sure. ThenI got to thinking I wonder if the timing belt has ever been replaced. IfI was to replace it is there lighter cam gears I could use and what would be the outcome of this or should I stick with stock. Also what are some common problems I should look for with this paticular caror is there any. Thanks for the info and sorry for so many questions but I just can't wait to get started tinkering with my car.

well hello and welcome , First of all it all depends on what do you whant to do with the car and the budget , you already set its going to be you're daily driver so i would recomend doing some tune up first than any performance mods , get the timing belt , water pump , tensioner , gaskets and all those stuff replaced. but then again 162,xxx is quite a bit of milage so i would recommend a rebuild just to be safe and them you can go ahead and start adding some performance parts like Intake , header etc
