no heat
hello, PROBLEM: 2005 Civic coupe Value pkg, automatic and a/c, 39,000mi. It's my daughter s car she just headed back to school (1.5 hrs away)and about 3/4quarters way there she stopped and took a break for about 15 minutes and continuing on she notice the fan ran but no heat, chk'd the control ***** all in correct postions, fan spds hi med etc all worked. The temperature gauge read normal reading in ctr of dial. i ask if the a/c was off and she confirmed she chkd all settings. I'm puzzledwhy no heat in passenger area. Appreciate any ideas explainations.. at least maybe i can fix myself(maybe) or what i can expect from the dealer. thank you
There is a valve on the firewall where one of the heater hoses leads to the heater core under the dash. I suspect that this valve may be stuck closed due to a broken/disconnected heater control mechanism on the dash.
RonJ- thanks for the quick reply.Kinda had thought something like that, butknowing how these cars have gotten 'electronaified' made me think it's more complicated. Well ,I know somethings don't chg much. Proaby with all the plastic parts - something snapped.Yup sounds like something for the dealer to work on--years ago i worked on a couple of dashes-now I don't think my bulky body is going to fit in there to do anythinglet alone the newer stuff hiding behind them. Again Thank You
Might just be low on coolant. Check the reservoir tank first but also with the engine COLD take the radiator cap off. The radiator itself should be full to the top.
Water valve should be still in the engine compartment on the firewall. One of the heater hoses passes thru it. When you turn the **** on the dash the control cable should push and pull on the valve lever. If it doesn't work, disconnect the cable and open the valve manually as a temporary workaround.
