non genunine key wont start vehcile
Hi
can anyone help. lost me key to me 1998 honda civic hatch, while out running today, had to get home get spare key which is non genunine key I got given when i bought he vehcile second hand. key wont start vehcile. any idea's whats required to get it started. a dealer i rang said I had to tow it to them and get a whole new Immobiliser system installed??
must be another way. any help please.

Your original key most likely has a chip in it that tells the computer that the key in the ignition is an original key. Without the chip, the computer will not allow the car to start. You will need to go to the dealer to get a spare key with the chip in it.
needs a dealer cut key.. i've got a key from home depot that'll open doors, but not start the car, useful for times you lock key in car, but not useful for losing key entirely
It's more a question of if the car features the iLock system that most honda dealers install now, if it does, and you don't have the fob to disable it, car will go into acc, but will not turn over
