Default O2?

I just bought my '00 EX... and it ran fine when I test drove it. Shortly after I brought it home, it started doing some odd things. First, the check engine light came on... I have yet to scan the codes (which will probably help TREMENDOUSLY) but... it's also hesitating... and intermittently it's jerking... like in first and second gear... as if I didn't know how to drive a manual. I've also noticed a drop in power at times. It's rather intermittent... I know my first step is to scan the codes, but before I do that... does it sound like an O2 sensor to anyone else?

after you take care of what is causing the code and you still have it; check your timing.

I'm going to take it to Cottman Transmission tomorrow (they offer free trouble code scanning) and have 'em pull the code (cheaper than getting a $100 OBDII scanner @ auto parts store)... I'll figure it out from there... I just thought perhaps some may have had this issue before... I'm thinking it's not the timing, because it's intermittent... it's not all the time.... it's just sometimes... and USUALLY after it warms up a bit.. but not always. The guy I bought it from said that he just did plugs and wires... of course, the last time I had a similar problem... I had a bad plug wire. *shrug* I'll figure it out.

you don't even need to take it there. you can do it by yourself

this is the plug you need to jump. located on the pass side. jump it w/ a paper clip and your check engine light on your cluster will start blinking. pay attention and count the blinks.

1 long blink = 10
fast blink = 1

so for example, 1 long blink and 4 fast blink = code 14

I'm just afraid of frying something... but, I take it you've done it?

Edit: AND... is it behind the glovebox, or where is it located?

OK... I found it... I checked it... and it's a code 14. According to https://www.hondacivicforum.com/m_45386/tm.htm that means it's the IAC sensor. I know it was replaced.... wonder how long the warranty is on it (since it's $155)... the only thing that I'm not getting is... the guide says that it's only to 98... so, does that mean that it may be a different code? I don't have a Chilton's yet...

nope it's all the same. check your iacv. it's probably just dirty since you've already replaced it. the spring that makes it go back and forth is probably sticky. spray it w/ carb cleaner. (2) 12 mm bolts is holding it. take that off and take the 2 hoses off.

after you clean it put everything back, and reset your ecu. look in the engine bay in your fuse box, look for the "backup" and pull out the 10 amp fuse for 1 min. plug it back in and start the car. or if you can't find the "backup", disconnect the neg battery for 1 min and put it back

In your experience... would that cause a stutter when accellerating... so much that if you don't gas it... it shakes back and forth (like it's your first time driving a manual)... when you're in 1 or 2 gear? I'll do this tomorrow (or when I have time)... I need it to pass emissions... and I'm taking it on a short trip this weekend, so I need it to be in tip-top shape. It has been 3 years since he changed the IAC... I've got the receipt. November '03...
