Need to get some clarification...

My wife's '99 Civic EX Coupe has an occasional problem with starting. From time to time, when she goes to start her car, the starter grinds (just like if you were to try to start it while it was already running). It is starting to happen more frequently, so I'm guessing her starter is going south. Is this a rebuildable part or do I just need to buy a new one? Any help you can offer would be great. Thanks!

Starter is not properly working replace it ASAP otherwise you will get her stranded ...

Its one thing for you to be stuck on the side of the road but your wife .. HELL NO

To many wackos out there now days ...

100% it is the starter though , not the solinoid ...

You might be able to get the starter rebuilt dirt cheap on ebay ...

my starter makes that noise a lot when the battery isn't charged enough to get it going

 

thiers two posible problems.....
ONE the starter outta adjustment or gear worn......
2 flywheel gear teeth are also worn from a uneven starter adjustment

 

Yes while you have the starter off, inspect the gear teeth. Turn the engine with a socket on the front pulley bolt and look for any broken or missing teeth. A new flywheel isn't real expensive but you have to take the transmission out to replace it.

 

ya to replace the fly wheel is quite a job!
but you realy should inspect the WHOLE flywheel! cause if thiers a few BAD grounded up spots it can do it again which could tear up the new starters gear teeth.... and if you adjust the starter for one of these grounded spots then with it in a good spot the teeth again wont engage and it will tear up the starter teeth then....


either way both are very important!
