Default Oil Leak

ok i'm pretty stupid but my civic has been leaking oil for awhile now and i can't seem to pinpoint the cause. my dad says it's either the oil filter or the hole they drain the oil from. could it be something else that causes the oil leak though? I'm taking it back to honda to get inspected. also, did u know that if u replace a battery for the 96-00 civics that the stupid SRS light comes on and won't go off so u have to spend like $50 to get it fixed by honda? f'cking lame *** excuse honda. lame.

Could be a blown gasket somewhere. And I've never heard of the SRS light coming on when you change your battery before. Could be wrong though.

Things to check before spending a ton of money with the dealer.

Make sure you have a good nylon washer on the oil drain plug.

Sometimes when removing the oil filter the rubber O-ring will stay stuck to the block and not the filter. Then when the new filter is installed you will not get a good seal due to having 2 rubber seals (this usually will cause a healthy oil leak though)

Check the oil sending unit. These are very prone to leaking and are just behind the oil filter and just above the oil drain plug (and a pain to get to).

check around the oil pan. it could be the oil pan gasket. Use a toque wrench on drain plug to rule out plug. did you buy the correct oil filter? set a large piece of white paper under your car after driving it.
