Hey guys,
I have a 2003 Honda Civic EX and cracked my oil pan. I bought a new one and installed it yesterday.

The new pan fits just fine, but it does not have the holes drilled for the two mounts that attach to the tranny :hithead:. The picture below show the mounts, the area where they are supposed to go, and the old oil pan holes.

Do I need these mounts? Will it be O.K. if I run my car without these parts?

I know this sounds stupid because they are obviously there for a reason, but why would "Spectra" (oil pan manufacturer) make the same oil pan as OEM just without the holes? All help is greatly appreciated!!! :_bow:

it's possible you got the wrong pan?
the d17a2 in the EX uses liquid gasket to seal to the block... make sure you remove and apply new gasket.
d17a2 pan is made of aluminum also. make sure you have the right pan, it is different from the LX pan.

 

I already installed the new pan using RTV oil pan sealant. I looked online for weeks and could not find an OEM oil pan. The one I purchased is the same pan that came up everytime I searched for my make and model on 20 different sites.

 

You're trying to replace an alloy pan with a steel one?

There are several Honda dealers online selling new OEM parts at a discount.

Part #5 is the alloy pan used on the EX.

 

Well $h*t on me! I kept googling OEM honda oil pan and kept coming up with that damn spectra oil pan! Now it is reinstalled and leaking like a faucet!

I even called the manufacturer and they verified that the part I needed was the one that I had ordered. Wish I had known about that site a while ago. How the hell can they sell an oil pan for a car it does not work on. This is such B/S and I just wasted like 3 hours of my life. Now I gotta go waste another 3 because cleaning RTV sealant is a BTCH!
