Oil Pressure Light On
Hey guys,
I've got a 2001 Honda Civic DX 5 spd. For the last month or so now the oil pressure light has been coming on at certain times. Usually just before an up-shift the light will illuminate, or when decelerating when coming to a stop, but then the light goes off once at a full stop. I'm a tech myself but this confuses me. The oil level seems to be fine, its not burning oil and no leaks anywhere to be found. I have parked beside a wall and listened to the engine and how it runs, but nothing seems wrong. The light tends to flicker a good amount, almost seems like a loose conection of some sort. This car has 140 000 kms. An oil change is due within the next few weeks so I'm thinking I'll start with that and see if it changes anything. Any other suggestions? I recently changed the timing belt, all other drive belts, and the water pump if that makes any difference. Anyone else have this problem? Thanks for your time guys.

I would follow the oil temp wire from the sending unit on the block and look for any sign of cracks in the wire. The sending unit could be failing too, however sending units tend to fail completely and not intermittently. So, providing your engine is getting the proper pressure I would highly suspect the wire. Good luck!
agreed^ check the wiring and if still dont find anything then replace the sending unit to see if the fixes the problem and problem still presests then it might be the oil pump going bad<-- last resort but start with everything else first.
