Default Overheating---sorta/maybe?

Hi everyone. I have a 2001 Honda Civic. It overheated about two weeks ago because the fans stopped working. I got them replaced but the thermometer would rise whenever I was idle. They replaced the thermostat, checked the radiator and fans. They replaced the thermostat again two days ago and now the temperature will raise even while Im on the highway, but it does go back down eventually. The mechanic said it's drivable but idk if the engine is actually getting hot or not. Does anyone have an idea whats going on here?

Is the radiator staying full? Check it when cold, it should be full to the top. Check the radiator itself, not the white plastic tank.

yea, what Mk378 said. make sure you're not leaking antifreeze. The coolant system is pressurized, if you've got a leak somewhere air will get in the coolant system and push out antifreeze, causing overheating issues. I had a similar issue over the winter, and oddly when I would go up hills, the engine would cool off to normal..but on flat surfaces she was overheating. I replaced the thermostat, & pump to no avail. Had a mechanic replace the headgasket, which they said had a hairline crack. Problem still persisted. I replaced the radiator cap since there seemed to be some 'spray' coming from there, problem resolved.

OP, check the fluid level in the radiator when cold as MK378 stated.

Are you "overheating" at idle only, when driving only, or randomly?

Also, make absolutely sure there is no air in your cooling system. I recently also had some cooling/overheating problems. After I replaced my thermostat the coolant level appeared normal, but there was an air bubble trapped somewhere in the system. Search the threads for the proper fill and bleeding procedure. If your rad cap is getting old, replace it too. (Its cheap insurance for your cooling system)
