Default Passenger Door Sensor Issue

I have a '98 civic and my door light seems to stay on even though all the doors are closed properly. This is really annoying as I have an alarm and because the alarm has been activated and the light inside the car stays on because it thinks that a door is still open, the alarm keeps going off constantly.

As a temporary fix, i have put a little bit of tissue on the door sensor so that the car thinks the door is closed.

Does anyone have any ideas on what this problem is, and how to fix it?

I've been told that this is apparently a common problem with civics of this age?

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

Try seeing if the bracket on the jamb is loose, that happened to me.

Open your door and look at the bottom rear jam area. You should see a black rubber cover that protrudes slightly outward. Behind that rubber cover is the door switch. Remove the rubber cover and inspect the switch. It may help to compare it to the good switch in the opposite door.
