Default Please help. Bad distributor engine codes p0170 and p0171

I bought a 97 civic hatchback about a month ago. It has 130k miles. I had a bad oil leak which I though was coming from where the distibutor bolts up. I was driving it yesterday and all of the sudden it died. wouldnt crank back up. I check the fire and wasn getting it from any plugwire. I then changed the distributor and it fired right up. Tonight while driving home from class the engine light came on. I read the codes and it was p0171 bank 1 lean and p0170. Anyone have anyideas on this. Could I have gotten the timing off when installing the new disributor causing the lean condition? Thanks

You should check the ignition timing with a timing gun after you replace the distributor. Be sure the engine is warmed up and idling to spec. Then jump the service connector above the ECU. The timing mark should line up with the red mark, which is in the middle of the group of three marks.
