Possessed Turn Sigals..

ive had this problem with my 96 ex ever since i bought it. the turn signals cancel randomly. there's no apparent pattern to it or aything...
i swear it's possessed.
what could be the problem, how could i fix it, and how much $$$ would it cost?
thanks in advance!

cancel as in when im done making my turn the lever pops back into the middle position.
it only pops back say....once in about 15 turns.
its quite challenging to descibe....

oh, so it doesn't cancel most of the time? Well, if that's the case you'll need to get a new turn signal switch:

I've heard you can fix them sometimes, but I think it's easier to just get a new one and fiddle with the old one when you replace it.

It's somewhat of an intricate job to change the switch. You really should have a shop manual and follow the directions exactly because two bad things can potentially happen: the air bag blows up in your face, or the clock spring breaks because you didn't synchronize it properly. It is possible that someone worked on it before and simply didn't put it back together right.
