Default Question on Gas Guage

When my needle gets to about wherethe red line is the gas light doesnt turn on. Do you think the bulb may be bad or am I just not letting the gas get low enough for it to come on? All the fuses are fine. Thanks

the gauge is just an extamate, you can probably get the needle below the line before the light comes on.
