Default Questions regarding headgasket replacement.

When I pulled the head off there were some little tubes that appear to help align the head with the block. There are four holes, but I only have two tubes. Do I need all four? And, when I put the new gasket on do I need to use any gasket sealant type stuff or just the dry gasket?

Just posting to move this thread back up. I just got my head back from the machine shop and I'd like to get it put back on, but I was hoping to get an answer first. Thanks.

You should only have two of those alignment cylinders. If there were more it could create a situation where the slightest intolerance and the head won't go on. On my D15B7 they were in the holes in the back (intake side). Head gaskets are put on without sealer. The head and block need to be perfectly clean of old gasket material and also dry off any oil or coolant.

if youre talking about the dowel pins, I personally think that more than 2 are necessary to properly align the headgasket.

I remember when I had my B20b scattered, that it used more than two to align the head gasket. Of course, I do not recall how many a d15 uses. Let me google it...
edit: Im stupid, d series only uses 2. Strange...
