Radio Problem on After Market Deck
Hi all,
I installed an aftermarket radio into my 1997 honda civic EX. I used a wire harness, and connected everything as listed on the instructions through InstallDR, and everything works fine EXCEPT the radio. All I get is static on both AM and FM, with no signal at all. I attached the 'blue' wire harness radio (power antenna trigger) securely to the 0.1A power antenna corresponding on the new radio. When I re-attach the factory radio I get signals fine, but I'm hearing nothing but static with my new deck.
My new deck is a Sony XPlod CDX GT640UI for reference.
Can someone help me out here? Is it a compatibility thing?

this may sound dumb but did you atach the attena? to teh back of the radio not just the power wire... gotta ask the stupid question first... other than that not sure just bought my first honda today and not sure if they need a adapter for the antenna or not
The Sony should have a standard antenna socket, no adapter needed. Check that the plug is not broken, it should have a metal pin about 2 mm diameter on the end. Sometimes they break pulling them out of the old radio. Also of course make sure the antenna is extended on the outside of the car.
Civics do not have power antennas, it is not necessary to hook up that wire though it won't hurt anything if you do. The antenna system is completely self-contained, it is simply a coaxial cable from the antenna to the radio. It does not require power from the car.

Thanks for the replies.
Yeah, I didn't plug that in. I assumed it was nothing, since the radio on the original stereo worked without it plugged in (It was still getting reception when I replugged the harness back in as I was looking to narrow down the problem) and the radio cable is really short and I didn't want to feel around at the back to try to plug it into the new Sony. Also on the Sony stereo diagram, the input listed it as a 'remote in', which I assumed was for some sort of keyless entry system or something, and gave no mention to it as an antenna input.
