Default Raised trunk - accident or manufacturer defect?

Hi

2004 Civic LX.
There were 2 things regarding this civic that I did not understand:
The passenger side of the trunk, near the rear view mirror was raised up about 1/4 inich
The trunk release latch from inside the car did not work.

The paint matched perfectly, there were no signs of an accident and It ran well.

I was under the impression the raised panel would be a result of an accident until I saw it the SE model, same year, at a dealership , the exact same problem (they said it was not in any accidents)

Has anyone else seen this?
Is this a manufacturer defect?

That generation had issues with the fuel door release pull:

Hmmmm I have a 96 Civic DX that I just bought to fix up & have it stripped down on the inside & don't see any car damage or repair work done in the trunk or quarter panel area.
I noticed that the driver side rear trunk does not close or seal down to the same level as the passenger side of the trunk. It doesn't leak water but, I noticed that it is a little higher up when it is closed. I can simply push down on it softly & it falls into place but doesn't stay.
Is the trunk lid adjustable??? I am still looking into this.
If it is not adjustable I am going to try to come up with a fix... maybe adjust the locking latch or maybe put in some shims between the trunk lid & the swinging arm or what ever it is called.
ANY previous attempts by anyone else to adjust or fix this issue??? Thanks in advance, Jason
