Rattling engine noise
I have an 05 Civic EX coupe, auto trans., A/C, with 160k miles. I have a metallic rattling noise that's very loud if you stand on either side of the car by the front wheels. I've checked the A/C compressor, Alternator, and Power Steering pump. All are quiet and work fine. I replaced the p/s belt and the alt./AC belt and still have the noise. The valves are all very quiet, too, and the car runs just fine. This thing is driving me crazy. I'm afraid to use the car for anything but local travel for fear of getting stranded somewhere far from home. The noise is there whether the car is idling in the driveway, or I'm driving it. Oh, I've also had the trans. fluid changed by the dealer. About the only thing left is the timing belt/ tensioner/water pump change out and I'm hoping that's not it. Any suggestions of where else I should look would be appreciated in case I'm missing something? Thanks.

PS-I also just changed the oil and filter, too. I've always used synthetic since day one.

No ideas or suggestions? The noise sounds like someone is shaking a can with a few BB's in it. My engine used to be nice and quiet but this is driving me crazy. It goes to a mechanic on Friday for diagnosis.

While at my mechanic's, I had him replace the timing belt and water pump. He called to let me know the noise is now gone. The water pump was on the way out.The whole job with parts and tax ran me $475.00. The dealer wanted $1,029 + tax. I think I did OK.
