Default Reading Codes without reader

Hi all,
I'm new to the forum and to hondas. Working on my buddy's 2001 EX (auto, 1.7 L I believe). I am at school and don't have my reader with me, he had a CEL. I don't have a repair manual, can I get it to flash codes or something with a test probe? If this has already been discussed and I didn't find it in my search, let me know that. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

this is the plug you need to jump. located on the pass side. jump it w/ a paper clip and your check engine light on your cluster will start blinking. pay attention and count the blinks.

1 long blink = 10
fast blink = 1

so for example, 1 long blink and 4 fast blink = code 14

Head down to your local AutoZone (most parts stores should also do it) and tell them you have a check engine light. They will pull the code for free.

My 95 has OBD1. Autozone could not read it. I jumped the connector too.

Thats what i thought as well. But if you have OBDII its pretty easy to pull the codes with a code reader. With OBDI its a pain even if you have a OBDI codereader since every company has a different way of hooking up teh code reader.
