Default Rear Wheel Noise

My mother died recently and left me her 2000 Honda Civic. It is in excellent condition with only 35,000 miles. Over the past couple years, I noticed a clicking in the left rear wheel when driving around town. It sound exactly like a stone wedged in the tire tread and is in perfect time with the tire rotation. However, there is no stone in the tire. The clicking comes and goes. In other words, I may not hear it for several weeks and then it starts again. Other than the noise, the car runs and drives perfectly. Any thoughts about the cause of the noise would be very much appreciated. Thank you. John
