replacing spark plugs etc. on 2001 lx
My car nears 100k miles and I'm going to replace the spark plugs soon. I picked up some plugs and was suprised when i couldn't buy any distribution wires - apparently my civic uses some casings that are expensive as hell to replace instead of wires. Can anyone tell me if i should bother replacing these? I should hope that they are well built and aren't a point of weakness.
Thanks.

RE: replacing spark plugs etc. on 2001 lx
I don't know much about the newer civics (mines a 96), but I know my 2000 Jeep uses a distributorless ignition with a coil rail in place of the distributor and wires. I just replace the plugs on that and let it be (140K on that). The coil rails eventually fail, but usually (I've been told) should last the life of the car...If you dont have any problems, I'd wait until you hit at least 200K to replace that.
Sounds like what you are talking about, I'm sure someone with a newer Civic can clarify.

Your car uses a distributerless ignition know as coil on plug ignition. Each cylinder has a seperate ignition coil. Where you would normally see the spark plug while, you see a white bump with a connector attached to it. This is the ignition coil and right under the ignition coil is the plug wire(its really not even a wire). I wouldn't replace the ignition coils unless they are bad but consult your owner's manual to make sure that the ignition coil/plug wires are not a regular maintanance item.
