RPM falls when a/c starts

RPM falls when a/c starts
I have civic-98 EXI. Its RPM is set around 1000. When ever i start a/c,,, RPM falls around 400. When a/c compressor stops on its timing rpm rises to normal 1000 and when compressor starts again it decreases again around 400. What would be the problem? Plz help....

Thnx mk378,,, i will let my mechanic check both IACV & condenser fan.
Actually my mechanic was asking me to scan my car computer unit... I was confused about that,,, so I will first work on your advice... Thnx again
