A friend has a '98 civic hatch, 190K, 5 speed that he is getting rid of because it won't pass inspection here in NY. He says something in the front end is rusted out, something that holds the engine and steering components, but is not motor mounts. He was quoted $2000 to fix it. Any guesses and advice greatly appreciated, think I could buy it for $600ish.

 

Can't you take a look at the car yourself? Raise it up and get under it?
