Question short shifter

Are short shifters bad for transmissions? I had a friend tell me to be careful if I put one in. Said it could tear up the tranny.

Just to add to this subject a little bit, what is the point behind the short shifter aside from personal preference? You can shift just as quick with the OEM shifter right?

it does help alittle for quick shifting because you dont have to throw it as far. its more like a flick of the wrist...

It makes shifting a little quicker, they look better, and some are designed well and make shifting more accurate. Depends on what you buy, an ebay knock off or a name brand that put research time into its shape and bends.

it lengthens the distance between your point where the shifter meets the linkage and the shifters pivot point, so you have to move the shfiter less to get in the gear, it doesnt have to do with how low the shifter sits. But i've had mine for a while and my tranny is doing fine.
