Si Wheel Problems for my '07 EX Coupe
I own a 2007 Civic EX Coupe with 300 miles on the OD. The mileage is low because this is not my primary car. I purchased the car new from my local Honda Dealer one year ago and at the same time also purchased a brand new set of Si style 17" wheels. Before purchasing the car with the second set of rims, 3 different Honda parts departments confirmed that the Si wheels would fit my EX coupe without a problem.
Recently took my Civic EX coupe to my local Honda dealer to have the new Si rims mounted and installed. After about 1.5 hours the service adviser told me that the new Si rim could not be installed on my car because the front caliper on the driver side was rubbing against the new Si style wheel rim. The service adviser he wasn't sure what was causing the problem because the other 3 wheels were just fine. I haven't noticed any braking issues.
The car has not been in any accidents. Can anyone tell me why the front driver side caliper would be hitting the new Si style rim? Is it a wheel or caliper or suspension manufacturing defect issue? Thanks in advance.

sounds a bit ridiculous... doesn't make much sense why it would clear on one side and not the other... the whee/l on the driver side may have had a wheel weight on it and the passenger side didn't ?... who knows...
wheel spacers... easy and cheap.. if one side rubs and the other doesn't, its probably only 1-2 mm of clearance needed...
besides the fact that dealerships charge WAY too much, i have some serious questions for a place that takes 90 min to install wheels...
the si wheels are pretty though...

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. I agree..incredibly ridiculous! One of the technicians did say something about spacers but the senior service said that I would have to make another appointment when the service manager was on-site. Senior adviser said wheel spacers might void warranty. I just hope they can figure something out. Car is still under warranty but as it stands right now I may have an $1800 potential wheel/tire loss. Knew I should have ordered the car from Japan. Was really looking forward to those Si rims...
the spacers shouldn't void the warranty, but i really don't know... i've seen two types of spacers...the first type (and better) is basically a small plate of metal the same size as your hubs with holes drilled in it for the studs... once again, it should only need a mm or two... the other type of spaces is essentially washers... if it only needs 1-2 mm, i'd just use washers as they are cheaper and easier to find...
i always recommend anything other than the dealer, but if you're getting honda parts and want to use dealerships, i'd go to a different one if possible... $1800... whew.. those tires better last a million miles.. good luck.
