I just installed a Skunk2 Intake on my sons 2000 Civic. I can't figure out what is causing the engine to rev. Right now all the hoses have been reconnected and the sensors are re-connected. However, I do not have theair cleaneron. I re-used the original throttle body and it is open to air with no back pressure from the air flow through the filter.Would this cause the engine to rev? Are the sensors backwards, is there no coolant flow yet??? Anyone have any suggestions? THANKS

 

Could be the sensors are wrong, could also be a vac leak. Spray carb cleaner on the vac lines while the car is running.....if the engine boggs down then youve found the leak.

I took off all of the hoses that I touched and reconnected them, I switched the sensors and tried different conbinations of each. It seems to have helped a little but it still hits 5000 rpm at idle. Any other suggestions I should try?

 

Did you put the intake manifold gasket back on correctly?Were there any rips or tears in it? How about the throttle body gasket? Spray carb cleaner along those areas too.....see if the gasket seals are tight.

 

If you were to rule out a vacuum leak using the carburetor cleaner method described by Pete, then you also might want to check whether the throttle cable is adjusted too tightly or the throttle itself is stuck too far open. The latter problem might be fixed by cleaning the throttle body with carburetor cleaner. Other potential problems could be a dirty IACV or bubbles in the coolant. These two issues would be addressed by cleaning the IACV with carburetor cleaner or bleeding the cooling system (pictures), respectively.

 

the car idles at 5K? you have one hell of a vacuum leak then

 

Throttle cable might be a little tight, I know I had trouble with my engine reving up. You have to have the car running and adjust the throttle cable. By chance did you flip the cable holder upside down? Or is a 2000 engine a bit different from a 95 engine? I flipped my holder upside down and it fit just fine, I just had to adjust it.
