Default Speedometer malfunctioning

So i have a 93 civic coupe and in the summer the speedometer works fine but when it gets cold it acts up. It doesn't read the right MPH and if fluctuates anywhere from 10MPH to 50MPH when im going around 25 and i don't know what could cause this. I believe its probly something in the tranny because if it was a cable it would mess up all the time and not just in the winter. Any help would be awesome... THanks

Is the CEL ON? Does the odometer work fine when the speedometer doesn't?

No the CEL is not on and the Odometer is working fine.

If the odometer continues to function when the speedometer is malfunctioning, then the speedometer itself is most likely bad.

What if none of the gauges in the cluster work =p
(1995 neon)
Gas gauge has been busted for a long time before these problems, speedo works spontaneously (regardless of weather). Tripometer/odometer only work when speedo works, and I can't remember about the tacho.

Yeah!

So Ron you still think its bad? The weather would affect whether or not the speedo itself works... How do i replace it? Do i need to get a whole new gauge set? Thanks Ron

Yes, my best guess is that the speedometer itself is bad. Objects typically expand with heat and contract in the cold. This might contribute to intermittent failure. I believe that you can just replace the speedometer. PM Addiction2Bass -- he'll know for more details. First double check that the connectors at the rear of the gauge assembly are all snug and undamaged.

This might be a wasted effort, again I'm guessing at things like usual
check the fuses, make sure none of them are burnt out or whatever
They would be connected to fuses, right? And if the fuse(s) were bad, it'd probably always be off, but...
